BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Thursday (26 April 2012) - Attorney General Chambers in collaboration with Brunei Economic Development Board is organising World IP Day at the Law and Courts Building this morning.

Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Muta-Wakkilah Hayatul Bolkiah binti Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah consents to attend the above function.

Also in attendance was Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Paduka Dayang Hajah Hayati binti Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Salleh, Attorney General and Dato Paduka Awang Haji Ali bin Haji Apong, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister Officer and the Chairman of Economic Development Board Brunei.

The function begins with the recital of Surah al-fatihah and follows with the welcoming speech by Dayang Hajah Nor Hashimah binti Haji Mohd Taib, Assistant Solicitor General in her capacity as the Co-Chairman of the said function.

It was follow by talks about "Innovation - BEBD's Perspective" by Dr Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Metussin, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Economic Development Board and also by Dayang Nur Al-Ain binti Dr Hj Abdullah, Deputy Senior Counsel about "WIPO Study on the Contribution of Copyright-Based Industries to the National Economy of Brunei Darussalam".

Her Royal Highness then visits the IP exhibition at Level 1, Law and Courts Building. Also participating were government agencies, private sectors and other related bodies such as Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Industrial and Primary Resources, Royal Brunei Police Force, Brunei Darussalam Religious Council, Darussalam Holdings, BeAT Berhad, the winner of CIPTA Award, Sabli Enterprise, S.Aisya Boutique, Noraini BAKERY, Sri Lyeira, Majlis Perundingan Kampong Putat and Majlis Perundingan Kampong Jerudong.

World IP Day is celebrated by World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) on 26 April every year. Since the year 2000, WIPO members, where Negara Brunei Darussalam was a member since 1995 has initiate World IP Day to raise public awareness about the role of intellectual property in daily life. and to celebrate the contributions made by innovators and creators to the development of societies around the whole world. The date 26 April was chosen because that was the day when the Convention establishing WIPO came into force in 1970. The theme of this year's World IP Day is "Visionary Innovators".
