THE 10TH EVENT OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S CHAMBERS OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM, MALAYSIA AND SINGAPORE

SINGAPORE, 24 May 2024 — The 10th Event of the Attorney General’s Chambers of Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, and Singapore (Tri-AGC), which was hosted by the Attorney General’s Chambers of Singapore, was held from 23rd to 25th May 2024 at Conrad Orchard Hotel, Singapore, with its theme “A Common Heritage: Building Tomorrow Today Together.”

The 10th Tri-AGC Event was officiated by The Honourable Edwin Tong, SC, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law. In attendance at the Opening Ceremony were Honourable Mr. Lucien Wong, SC, Attorney General of Singapore, The Honourable Datin Paduka Hjh Nor Hashimah binti Hj Mohammed Taib, Attorney General of Brunei Darussalam, The Honourable Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin bin Mohd Salleh, Attorney General of Malaysia, Senior Officers from the three Attorney General’s Chambers and delegates.

In the Keynote Speech, The Honourable Minister stated that the three countries shared a common legal heritage. Over time, the respective countries have developed their legal systems to suit domestic needs. Nonetheless, a fundamental value that continues to underpin the three jurisdictions is the adherence to the rule of law. The Honourable Minister further highlighted that the rule of law ensures access to justice for all parties and improves the quality of life in a society. 

More than 119 officers from the three Chambers participated in the event. Each Chambers presented on the topics of ‘Sharing of work, organisational structure and significant recent development(s)’, ‘Tackling Online Falsehoods’, and ‘Combating Internet Scams’. In addition, the delegates took part in team-building activities, with the aim of strengthening the close relationships between officers of the three Chambers.
 
The Tri-AGC Event, which first began in 2006, serves as a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experiences in areas of law of mutual concern among the Attorney General’s Chambers of the three countries. The Event is held every 2 years and provides opportunities and platforms which builds on existing partnerships links as well as foster friendship and closer rapport among the officers of the three Chambers, such as through attachment programmes, workshops and in-house training.​
