29th Annual Conference of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP)

On 29 September 2024, the 29th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) was hosted by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This prominent event brought together approximately 470 prosecutors and legal experts from 95 countries, where discussions centred on the multifaceted role of the prosecutor in upholding the Rule of Law and ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of the criminal justice system.

This four-day conference was attended by a delegation of prosecutors from the Criminal Justice Division of the Attorney General’s Chambers from Brunei Darussalam, led by The Honourable Attorney General and Public Prosecutor, Datin Seri Paduka Dayang Hajah Nor Hashimah Binti Haji Mohammed Taib.
The conference theme, “The Role of the Prosecutor in Upholding the Rule of Law”, facilitated discussions on key issues such as transparency, accountability, and data protection in the context of digital evidence and the use of artificial intelligence. The conference also featured other topics on prosecuting domestic and gender-based violence, economic crime, and asset recovery. 
During the event, the Honourable Attorney General and Public Prosecutor also met with Dr Kamran Aliyev, the Prosecutor General of The Republic of Azerbaijan, and discussed various legal issues of common concern, underscoring the importance of international collaboration in strengthening the rule of law. 

The IAP was established in June 1995 at the United Nations Office in Vienna, it remains a pivotal global organization of prosecutors with over 183 organisational members from more than 177 different countries.  At its forefront, the IAP serves as a key platform for prosecutors worldwide in promoting the rule of law and enhancing the standards of professional conduct and ethics for prosecutors worldwide, as well as improving international cooperation in the fight against crime.
