Mission

• To Provide Legislative Drafting Services of the Highest Quality for the Good Governance of Brunei Darussalam
• To Carry Out Comprehensive, Credible and Quality Legal Research as Guidance for Policy Makers to Formulate Effective Legislation

The Legislative Drafting Division supports the development and maintenance of Brunei Darussalam’s legislative framework. The Division contributes to the preparation of legislation by assisting in the translation of Government policies into clear, precise and legally sound legislative provisions. In carrying out its legislative drafting functions, the Division ensures that legislation is prepared in accordance with the Constitution of Brunei Darussalam and takes into account the nation’s customs and traditions.

The core responsibilities of the Division include the drafting and vetting of principal and subsidiary legislation to give legal effect to policies and initiatives across the Government ministries, departments and agencies.

Another key function of the Division is the periodic revision of the Revised Edition of the Laws of Brunei in accordance with the Law Revision Act (Chapter 1). The Division also provides public access to accurate and up-to-date legislation through BRULAW.
