Mission

• Safeguarding a Fair Criminal Justice System for the Public, Victims and Defendants by Maintaining a Competent and Impartial Prosecution Service

The Criminal Justice Division is the prosecutorial limb in the Attorney General’s Chambers which is responsible for conducting criminal legal proceedings on behalf of the Public Prosecutor in all tiers of court in Brunei Darussalam.

While the cornerstone of the Division’s work is criminal prosecution, the Division also bears the core responsibility of providing authoritative legal advice to law enforcement agencies on complex criminal law issues, including the development of national criminal justice policy to ensure alignment with the criminal justice system of Brunei Darussalam.

The facilitation of training and outreach to other Government enforcement bodies as well as public outreach are also integral to the Division’s line of work. The Division regularly organises training and dialog sessions with law enforcement agencies and provides expert-witness training courses for national agencies in order to enhance the quality of expert evidence given in the course of trial proceedings.
